How do you prepare when you know there won’t be time?

I’m gonna make this one short, but sweet. 🙂

The coming weeks are going to get pretty crazy for me.  I am currently working from home, but will need to be in the Chicago office to train my replacement next week.  Commuting to the office would mean driving at least four hours each day, and when you combine that with at least 40 hours of work keeping up with a daily blog seems a bit overwhelming.

Once work is finished next Friday, I have to get right home and try to prepare for a journey.  I leave first thing Saturday morning for Sydney, Australia.  The trip alone will be a 36-hour adventure, and I doubt that I will be doing much working on the trip.

So how you prepare yourself and your blog for such occasions?  What do you do if you have a daily commitment (like DR. WHAW?) that you know you will not be able to keep up during times of high stress?  Can you plan ahead?

    When it comes to blogging…I’d say guest posting is a great way to help fill in the gaps when you don’t have time to sit down and commit. You bring new readership to your blog, too, and give smart colleagues and bloggers of yours a chance to shine. 🙂

    Also, if you’ve got the time before things get super crazy, try pumping out a couple posts just like this one (short and sweet) now and schedule their publication for next week. If you can’t do it this time, keep it in mind for next time!

    If it’s just too crazy for ya, leave up a quick but sincere post about you being gone and maybe just link a few of your favorite blogs to hold people over.

    We understand busy, and it sounds like you’re getting ready for a great trip, so don’t worry too much!

      What do you do when you know you won’t be able to do a daily task? I like to highlight the best posts from each day, but won’t have time. What do you I do about that?

        Is there any way you might be able to snag some time to do a “lite” version of your daily blog aggregation? How many do you usually include? Or, maybe cut it down to a couple times instead of daily?

        Really, all this comes down to priorities. How important is this daily blog post aggregation to your readership? Would they be horribly upset if you let them know you were going to be gone for a bit? Do you think it’d be the ruin of you to put it off for a little bit?

        Sarah Evans might be a great person to ask about this. She sends out her Commentz e-newsletter daily, and I don’t think I’ve seen a break in the frequency of it despite how often she travels.

        Priorities and boundaries. You can’t do it all.
